Providing life changing opportunities

United Ministries
provides life changing opportunities
and advocacy for people in our community who lack education
or
employment skills,
who are in financial
crisis, who
are homeless, and those who can help.

About Us
United Ministries was founded in 1970 to help those in their time of
need
with food and financial assistance, and evolved to provide
resources
needed to help people emerge from poverty situations.
In 1989,
services grew to include a homeless day shelter (the first in
SC)
that provides
basic
hygiene and communication services, as well
as in-depth case
management aimed at
addressing the barriers
(mental or physical
illness, substance abuse, etc.,) that keep
participants from
long-term
housing.
In 2002, United Ministries added the Learning Center
which offers Adult Education via free GED instruction, and Greenville Technical College
transition
classes,
as well as Employment Readiness which provides
general
and job-specific training.
United Ministries is also home to one of the most unique programs in our community – Our Eyes Were Opened – an education and advocacy program for compassionate individuals with resources to help.
Over 80 congregations support United Ministries as an outreach
ministry of their church, and even more groups engage through food
drives for our
food pantry, warmth or care package drives for the Place
of Hope, and participation in our annual Walk for the Homeless. __________________________________________________________

Learn to Earn
We all know that education is critical to breaking cycles of poverty
and disappointment. Often times, for students in United
Ministries’ Adult Education Program,
poverty sets the backdrop for the
stories of their
lives. For
one reason or another, they did not finish high school. Some
made some bad decisions in their youth; for others, circumstances
beyond their control kept them from achievement. They
have come to
United Ministries for a
second chance, and we are glad
they came.
And because of your support, we will offer them life
changing oppor-
tunities.
