WorkKeys

New in 2011 is the introduction of a WorkKeys component to the Adult Education Program. WorkKeys is a skills assessment test that gives individuals the opportunity to demonstrate to employers their proficiency in core workplace skills and gives employers the ability match the skill profiles of applicants with the specific skills required for vacant positions. An individual who scores above a minimum standard score on the WorkKeys assessment will earn a Career-Readiness Certificate (CRC) of a level (e.g., bronze, silver, gold, etc.) corresponding to their skill level. An increasing number of major employers in the Upstate are recognizing, requesting, or even requiring WorkKeys scores as a condition of employment, including Greenville County, Greenville Hospital System, St. Francis, Grainger, Greenville County Schools, Kemet, and Michelin.

The Adult Education Program integrates WorkKeys practice testing, preparation, and official testing into the flow of GED preparation.  Most of the material that is presented on the WorkKeys assessment is similar to GED material, so the pairing of the two is natural.  Students who enroll in the program will be strongly encouraged to complete the WorkKeys process while they are preparing for the GED exam so that graduates will have earned both a High School Equivalency Diploma and a Career-Readiness Certificate.
