The mission of Employment Readiness is to remove barriers for individuals who are motivated to improve their employment situation.

The Employment Readiness program was created to respond to the basic need of residents of Greenville for employment which provides a life-sustaining wage -- a wage which can lift and/or keep a person out of poverty. This need continues to be a challenge for our community. In order to be able to afford a two bedroom apartment at the fair market rate in Greenville, a person must earn a wage of at least $11.50/hour -- a wage which remains out of reach for many in our community.

The Employment Readiness program is open to the public and has helped many unemployed workers whose labor skills are not suited to today's market. Employment Readiness partners with the American Red Cross, United Way, and Greenville Technical College, as well as many other individuals and businesses who are dedicated to increasing job opportunities for individuals motivated to work. The program works hard to research the employment needs of the local business community and to meet those needs with qualified individuals. Employment Readiness provides a trained skilled workforce and contributes to Greenville's economic base through two tiers of program services:

  • Basic Services: "Soft skills" training such as conducting a job search, completing an application, and interviewing are offered through workshops, networking, and follow-up. Potential employees are then connected with local employers.
  • Advanced Employment Readiness: Job training opportunities which include Certified Nursing Assistance and Commercial Driver's License. One year of direct assistance and case management is provided for everyone enrolled in the program. In 2008, 56 individuals completed this program and over 95% were still working a year later.
