Practice GED Testing

The next step for newly enrolled students is to take the Official Practice GED Test (PGED). The PGED is directly aligned with the Official GED Exam and is designed to indicate a student’s competence in each of the five GED subjects.  Our program’s use of the PGED has been critical to its success.  Rather than requiring students to attend pre-scheduled testing, program staff are trained to offer PGED testing “on the fly.”  A student can walk in unannounced any time our building is open and be offered PGED testing. Moreover, our program administers the PGED in a highly individualized manner, giving each student the opportunity - before and after each subject test - to discuss strategy and to review content one-on-one with a staff or volunteer study partner. This approach builds confidence for persons who have been out of school for some time, nurtures supportive staff/volunteer-student relationships which will be key to long-term success, and provides a clear academic plan tailored to each student’s needs. For instance, if a student’s PGED results indicate competence in all subjects but Math, only Math will be studied; in contrast to many GED programs that require a student to work through an all-inclusive curriculum regardless of need.
